MYA MOVES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIMEAND IS TALKING!

Although Mya’s mother had a very long labor, there were no other complications during Mya’s birth. Mya was a healthy 8 pound baby girl. Baby Mya and her mother went home from the hospital 2 days after she was born. However, on the 7th day of baby Mya’s life, she began to scream and her parents were unable to console her.

By the time parents reached the pediatrician’s office, Mya was not only screaming but also her eyes had started bulging. But the medical team did not suspect anything abnormal at the time, and sent parents home. When the family returned home,  Mya immediately began to have projectile vomiting. She let out a sigh right before her body went limp.  She was admitted into the hospital and was diagnosed with a Grade III Brain Bleed.  Mya was in the hospital for another 4 months fighting for her life.

By the time Mya was 17 months old, she started having seizures and was placed on medication to help with her condition. Her parents were told to love her but that her future was bleak. It was suspected she may never walk or catch up to her peers.

Mya’s parents attended the online Doman Method® Course: From Special Needs to Wellness, when Mya was 4 years old.  Every 2  months, she would have about 5 seizures a month, and she was taking 4 different anti-convulsant medications. Her vision was limited. She was not able to see more than 2 meters in front of her. She was immobile. The most she could move was to turn left or right on the floor to reach for things. Her understanding was below age level. She had some speech and could talk in short sentences.  Her manual ability was poor and toys and objects often fell out of her grip.

Immediately after the course, Mya’s family took their first in-person appointment at Doman International’s Philadelphia clinic. Her parents began with the recommended Nutrition and Doman Method® Oxygenation Programs to build Mya’s overall health. They did the Patterning Program, and the inclined floor to teach Mya to move independently. They also began with the Reading Program.

Six months later, at her most recent appointment, Mya had made many gains. The most crucial one was that Mya was seizure-free and was on the pathway of decreasing seizure medication under Doman International’s medical supervision. During her evaluation, Mya demonstrated that she could read words she was shown before, as well as reading new vocabulary. She is now able to spot her mother from across the room, can read facial expressions and her vision is improving very well. Her manual ability has improved as well and she is able to feed herself!

Moreover, she is speaking in longer sentences, and her mother is proud to share that her questions demonstrate the depth of her understanding which has grown while doing the Doman Method® program. She is asking questions like “Mommy, where are you?” and “Can you brush your teeth by yourself?”

Her biggest win is that Mya is crawling on her belly on the flat floor for all her needs. Her record to date is crawling 9 yards without stopping. This is a special and beautiful achievement for her. She is also beginning to hold the quad position on all fours with some assistance. This is an important milestone before she begins to learn to creep on her hands and knees.

Mya’s family thank God and the Doman team for this amazing change in Mya. We congratulate Mya and her hard-working parents.
