Developmental delay is a neuro-developmental disorder. There are developmental milestones like smiling, taking the first step, learning to play, learning to speak, walking etc. are the indicators of a child's growth. Some children develop skills and reach developmental milestones normally and some children are slow to learn those skills and developmental milestones compared to other children of the same age. This slowness of the child's development is called developmental delay. T

here is another term called "Global developmental delay" which means a child is delaying significantly in two or more areas of child development. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 17% of the children whose age is between 3 and 17 have one or more than one developmental disabilities.

An individual who has been diagnosed with developmental delay likely suffered from an event that took place before birth, during or after birth, which affected their brain development and function. When the brain is damaged, the individual can have a range of symptoms as a result.

For children diagnosed with developmental delay, often the brain damage suffered can lead to symptoms such as poor speech development, hyperactivity, sensory hypersensitivity, disorganization, anxiousness, poor gross and fine motor skills, poor coordination, repetitive, poor response to name, poor visual development or visual impairment, social withdrawal, lack of affection reception.

The Doman Method® for developmental delay

Children with developmental delays are not hopeless. In fact, they have shown great potential for improvement with a home-based program of stimulation and activity that improves brain development.

The human brain is able to change and rewire — this process is called neuroplasticity. The Doman Method® Program has been designed to help the brain develop through specifically designed activities. Nearly all children improve on a home program, and their symptoms reduce, or at times, disappear. Some children graduate from the Doman International program and join their well peers in school.

Our goal for each and every child is wellness — well enough to look and function like everyone else, and succeed and be happy in life. While this is an incredibly challenging goal to achieve, our main objective is excellent results.

If you have a child or loved one diagnosed with developmental delay, you can begin the Doman Method program by attending the Online Doman Method® Course. This course teaches parents how to do a treatment program designed for maximum progress in cognitive, motor and speech development, as well as improved behavior, health, and sensory development.
