Jacob Learns to Creep (Developmental Delay)
Jacob’s parents started to notice that little Jacob was not reaching milestones as he should when he was 8 months old. He was soon diagnosed with developmental delay, microcephaly, and cerebral palsy. Jacob did not have any seizures, but when an EEG showed seizure activity he was put on anticonvulsant medication.
Jacob’s parents attended the Online Doman Method® Course: From Special Needs to Wellness soon after his 3rd birthday. When parents took the course, Jacob was able to see, but not well beyond a short distance. Parents noticed that he was not responding to their speech and felt that he may not be understanding them. At age 3 he was essentially immobile, he was able to get on hands and knees but couldn’t move forward. Instead, he often resorted to sitting.
After taking the course, parents took an Initial Visit for Jacob at Doman International, to have him evaluated by the staff and to have a Doman Method® program designed for him. In the last 5 months, Jacob has started on Doman Method® programs of the Inclined Floor to help him to move forward, Sensory Integration, and a Reading program. Within just a few months, Jacob has started to creep on his hands and knees! He is now able to creep around the house and is starting to get up on his feet to stand. This is an important pathway for Jacob on his journey to begin to walk.
Moreover, since having started on the Doman Method® program, parents have also gradually weaned him completely off his anticonvulsant medication under medical supervision. He is more alert and is making more sounds to communicate since being off all medication.
We congratulate Jacob and his hard-working family for their great achievements!
