Jayde’s Story: Walking for the First Time (Developmental Delay)
At the moment of her birth, doctors noticed that baby Jayde was extremely small. She was immediately diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction, implying her growth was not normal during the pregnancy. At 3 months of age, parents realized that Jayde was having problems and they began to look for answers. It was at that time that parents were given a diagnosis of “failure to thrive”.
When Jayde was 6 months of age, parents received another diagnosis of hypotonia and developmental delay. Just before her first birthday, due to severe reflux and pain in her esophagus, Jayde couldn’t eat. She underwent an emergency gastrostomy to resolve the problem.
The prognosis from her MRI at the time was that it was unlikely Jayde would ever walk. Her condition was considered a rare case and was eventually diagnosed as cerebral palsy.
By the time Jayde was 14 months old, parents had found out about the Doman MethodTM. At the time of the parents’ taking the course, Jayde could not move and could not speak.
After the course, parents went home and immediately changed her diet per the guidelines of a Doman Method™ nutrition plan. Parents described the change in her nutrition as Jayde eating “real food” for the very first time, unlike formula or other pre-packaged baby food. As soon as Jayde began eating the recommended food, her health improved. Parents also began, among other programs, patterning. They also gave her ample opportunity for mobility development on the incline floor. The result was that Jayde began moving for the first time in her life.
Jayde has now been on the Doman Method™ Program for four years. Parents are very happy with the results. Jayde loves to read books and reads content at a 4th-grade level, well above her age level! She is now able to eat all of her food by mouth and has had the achievement of no longer needing a gastric tube! During this time, she learned first to crawl on her belly and then to creep on her hands and knees.
At her most recent evaluation at Doman International, parents and staff celebrated her biggest win yet...
Jayde is now walking!
She walks over 1 mile (1600 Meters) in a day. She walks both inside and outside the house. She cannot seem to get enough of her newfound mobility and loves to walk everywhere! Concurrently, Jayde has had great improvement in language. She now has many words of speech.
We congratulate Jayde and her hard-working parents for their great achievements.
