Mario’s Strides in Reading, Speaking, and Enhanced Vocabulary (Developmental Delay)
Little Mario suffered from jaundice for the first 8 months of his life. He recovered, and otherwise had normal development until 1 year of age. In the second year of his life, his mother began to notice that he was not responding to his name, had poor balance, was not engaging socially and did not have any words of speech. Mario was missing his neurotypical milestones and was diagnosed with Developmental Delay a little before he turned 3 years old.
Mario was 5 years old when his parents took the online Doman Method Course: From Special Needs to Wellness. At the time, knew his alphabet and numbers, but did not read. He had tactile sensitivities where he was tentative in the pool. He would only stand in it and would not swim. He had a difficult time getting his hair washed and his toenails cut. He spoke in simple sentences and his vocabulary was limited. His fine motor skills were poor. He would grab a pencil using his whole hand. He could not draw or color very well.
Within 3 months of having completed the course, Mario’s family took the first available live evaluation offered by Doman International in Belgrade, Serbia. They began with all aspects of the Doman Method® program. This included the recommended nutrition to support better neurological organization, and health. Mario did a Mobility Program of creeping on hands and knees, and crawling on his belly. They did the Patterning Program to help teach Mario’s brain how to move better in cross-pattern. His mother taught him to read with the Doman Method® Reading Program as well as a tactile sensory integration program to help him with his sensitivities. The Doman Method® Oxygenation Program was done to support better sensory awareness and improve his language.
Mario is now 6 years old, having done a consistent Doman program for nearly 7 months. At his most recent Advanced Doman Program appointment, Mario demonstrated wonderful results. Mario had seen over 500 single words, 80 word pairs and more than 30 sentences in his Reading Program. He could read words and sentences presented to him during his evaluation, and demonstrated the ability to read more than a 100 words. This gives him a Reading Victory!
Mario is running longer distances and his balance has improved greatly. His mother was delighted to share how Mario can easily climb a low-lying branch of a tree independently. She also shared that during their summer holiday, Mario was not only comfortable but was enjoying swimming and playing in the water at the beach. His tactile sensitivity has reduced greatly. Moreover, Mario is now able to speak longer sentences. He can engage in conversations at home, and speaks a lot. He went from speaking several hundred words to now a vocabulary of over 2000 words.
Mario loves to color and paint all on his own. His fine motor skills have improved and he likes to color for enjoyment. Here you will see a painting by Mario, shared by his proud mother.
We congratulate Mario and his family for their enduring efforts!
