Riya’s Gains in Mobility and Understanding (Mowat-Wilson Syndrome)

Soon after her birth, an MRI diagnosed Riya with Agenesis of Corpus Callosum. Around the same time she was also diagnosed with the Mowat-Wilson Syndrome.

Riya’s parents took the online Doman Method® Course: From Special Needs to Wellness when Riya was 5 years old. At the time, Riya was immobile with poor muscle tone, although she could hold her head up. She was able to understand very little. She has been on the Doman Method treatment plan for 2 years now.

After having begun with her Doman Method® program, she learned to crawl down the Inclined Floor on her belly, and then on the flat floor. A wonderful milestone for her. Her most recent development is that Riya can independently get into a quad position and is starting to creep on her hands and knees!

Her program has included a rigorous routine of crawling over obstacles, balance activities, learning to get into the quad position as well as learning to stand under Glenn’s ladder. In mobility development, children learn to creep on hands and knees before learning to stand on the pathway to walking. Riya is making steady progress in gaining her mobility milestones.

Besides, her hands used to be quite sensitive, but per her most recent evaluation at Doman International, this sensitivity has reduced. She can hold on to the dowels of the ladder much better than before. This is an essential support for her to learn to stand.

Her mother reports that the Patterning Program has been crucial to Riya’s progress in learning to creep on her hands and knees. She felt it was challenging to do patterning at the beginning of their last 6-month period, but soon realized how essential it was to Riya’s big milestone.

The Doman Team applauds Riya and her family’s efforts in reaching their goals.

Additionally, Riya is now more aware of her environment. She follows her daily routine and knows her activities pertaining to the time of the day. She can follow instructions in a group and attends activities at her church with other children. She enjoys listening to rhymes and stories during these group activities. Her mother also proudly reports that Riya can follow the content of her homemade books in her Reading Program and her concentration has improved as well.

Riya’s parents and the team at Doman International are thrilled with her breakthrough. Our hearty congratulations to Riya and her family!
