Emanuele Walks! (Cerebral Palsy)
When Emanuele was born, his mother had a very difficult labor and he had to be delivered via C-section. Parents, at the time of his birth, immediately knew their little infant had a problem. He was soon diagnosed with microcephaly and cerebral palsy. At 2 years of age, Emanuele’s understanding was below age-level, he had no speech and his ability to move or use his hands was still like a newborn. At this time, his parents read the book “What To Do About Your Brain-Injured Child” by Glenn Doman, and signed up for the Doman Method® Course.
After attending the course, parents started the Doman Method for Emanuele, including programs of patterning to teach him how to move, tactile stimulation so he had a better ability to feel his body, and the inclined floor to give him opportunities to move. Emanuele was unable to move at all when parents started the program, but very soon after, Emanuele began crawling down the inclined floor.
Parents knew the importance of nutrition for children with special needs and began this part of the program too. His understanding and mobility began to show improvements. Emanuele has been on the Doman Method program for over 4 years.
He has gone from being immobile to being able to crawl on his belly, and then he learned to creep on his hands and knees. He can easily sit up. He is learning to walk, which is the next stage after being able to creep on his hands and knees in mobility development. He has walked over 1000 meters per day with the help of Glenn’s Ladder. He reads in at least 3 different languages and can read above his grade level. Emanuele has many words of speech and much better use of his hands. Parents and staff are celebrating the fact that Emanuele has begun to take independent steps for the first time! His record to date is 25 nonstop steps, all by himself.
This is a special and beautiful achievement for him. We congratulate Emanuele and his hard-working parents.
