GRADUATION SPOTLIGHT: KARLO!

When Karlo was born, parents were told that he had Trisomy 21 and that his future looked bleak.  His parents refused to believe that little Karlo wasn’t capable of amazing things and decided to seek help.  Very soon after he was born, Karlo’s mother learned of the Doman Method® and began with all that she could do to help Karlo thrive.

Karlo has had the benefit of nearly every program offered by Doman International – he learned to crawl using the Infant Crawling Track, and moved up in every mobility milestone. He learned to brachiate on monkey bars, did gymnastics, and is now at his age level in his physical development.  Karlo also learned to read as a young baby and is now able to speak and read 2 languages, and is learning to read a third language, Italian!  Over the course of 4 years, Karlo had read 400 homemade books as part of his Doman Reading Program and started to move on to more advanced texts and books.  

And, Karlo had never been to an appointment with the Doman International staff. The first and only other time our staff had met Karlo was when he was in his mother’s arms at the parent training course so many years ago.  

In April 2022, Karlo came for his first and only assessment with Doman International on his 8th birthday.  He showed our staff his ability to read at peer level, to write and more.  Karlo thoroughly loves music and is able to tell you about anything you ask him.  It was a pleasure for our staff to evaluate such a confident boy!

Karlo is a pioneer – at age 7, he was the first child with Trisomy 21 in his home country to go to school with neurotypical kids without an aide.

Here’s what is mother had to say about Karlo and his time on the Doman Method Program:

“We were blessed that we had learned about Glenn Doman before Karlo was born and therefore knew where to seek help right away. One of the first thoughts that ran through my head was 'If any child can be a genius Karlo can at least be an average child.' 

After the course, even though greatly inspired and eager to start, we were terrified because we knew that working so many hours daily and completing the full program was impossible for us. Apart from the precious knowledge I gained, the most valuable things I learned were perseverance, consistency, and the importance of believing in your child. 

We worked on the program 7 days a week approximately 3 hours daily. Even though there was always so much more to be done the progress was constant and inspiring. 

We also decided early on to drop the Down Syndrome tag and look at Karlo as simply a child with great potential who just had to struggle a bit more. This helped us to be able to go past the boundaries that the world had set for Karlo. 

We knew that God was the only one to set Karlo's limits. We are utterly blessed and thankful to be Karlo's parents and are extremely proud of him.”
