Helena Goes To School (Trisomy 21)

Helena’s birth was a difficult one. She was diagnosed with Trisomy 21 right after she was born. For seven years, Helena’s parents worked extremely hard for Helena’s physical, cognitive, and physiological development.

Now, at the age of eight, Helena reads at a twelve year-old level, which is four grade levels above her own age. Her math ability is at age-level. Helena can type and write and loves the latter more! She writes paragraphs on her favorite topics.

From a physical standpoint, Helena runs every day. Her daily running distance is 2.8 kilometers. Helena enjoys her weekly ballet lessons. Her teachers say she is the most focused and most well-behaved of all the students in ballet! Her end-of-semester recital is much awaited.

Helena’s speech is also improving rapidly. Her vocabulary is above age-level and she now narrates stories and can recount events, speaking in paragraphs.

Helena is learning English and her grasp on the English language is quite impressive, shares her mother.

Much to the joy of Helena, her parents, and the Doman International team, Helena is ready to enter school and join her well peers!

We congratulate Helena and her wonderful parents for their perseverance resulting in such a great success!
