Homemade Toothpaste Recipe

Homemade toothpaste is simple to make and requires just a few everyday ingredients. This is a great opportunity for children with special needs and their families to avoid the negative effects of chemicals and harmful substances used in the production of most toothpastes.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cups baking soda,

  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt (you can reduce the amount if the taste is too salty for you)

  • 1 - 2 teaspoons peppermint extract or 10-15 drops peppermint essential oil (you can also add your favorite flavor – lemon, orange, rose, etc.)

  • filtered water (till desired consistency)

  • for summertime only: 2 tablespoons coconut oil

Process:

  1. Mix together baking soda, optional salt, peppermint and coconut oil (if applicable).

  2. Add a little water at a time, stirring after each addition, until paste reaches desired consistency.

You get approximately 150 gram of toothpaste from the ingredients listed above. It is better to store it in a small glass jar.

Before brushing your teeth, simply wet your toothbrush, scoop up or apply as much paste as you want, and start brushing.
