Jakob learns reading, understanding, running and language victories in just 8 months (Trisomy 5p)
Jakob’s mother met an old friend when Jakob was 2.5 years old. Seeing that perhaps Jakob had a neurological problem, this wonderful friend told Jakob’s mother about the Doman Method®. Jakob’s mother was asked to read the What to do About Your Brain-injured Child book written by Glenn Doman and was given general information about the Doman Method® program. At the time Jakob had been diagnosed with Trisomy-5p and was developmentally delayed.
Jakob’s mother was delighted with this information. Using the information from the book, Jakob’s mother evaluated him. She knew that Jakob was behind his peers in his developmental milestones. Jakob’s vision was at the level of a one year old where he may look at pictures, but could not necessarily distinguish them. His understanding was below his peers. He was walking but had balance problems. He was not yet running. He had no words of speech except for making some sounds.
His parents signed up for the online Doman Method® Course: From Special Needs to Wellness soon after learning about the Doman Method®. While they waited for the course to begin, Jakob’s mother had begun doing the program from reading the book. A Walking Program was started and they began with some creeping on hands and knees along with the Reading Program.
Jakob began to blossom. By the time they took the online Doman Method® Course, his parents were seeing results. Within six months of having completed the course, the family came for their first in-person evaluation to Doman International in Fauglia, Italy. By this time, Jakob was a little over 3 years old.
In the eight months of having started with the Doman Method® program, his parents knew that Jakob had made remarkable progress. But they were overwhelmed with the beautiful results!
He had seen at least 800 words before their in-person evaluation. He went from seeing only details such as facial expressions and simple pictures to now being able to read. During his evaluation, he successfully demonstrated reading more than 100 words and received a Reading Victory! Being able to read as a 3-year old puts him above his peer-level.
Jakob went from understanding just a few words of speech to a level of understanding equal to his age-level. He can understand everyday conversations easily, including following directions and being able to make deals with his parents. This gave him an Understanding Victory.
As for his mobility milestones, he went from poor walking to well-coordinated running. When a child can run more than 100 meters without stopping, it earns them a Running Victory. Jakob surpassed this goal brilliantly and can run up to 300 meters non-stop!
Most remarkably, Jakob went from having no words of speech to now being able to make conversations! He has a vocabulary of more than 2000 words, thus earning him a Language Victory.
He is friendly and loves to socialize.
We heartily congratulate Jakob and his family!
